The Brain Drain

A brain drain or human capital flight is an emigration of trained and talented individuals ("human capital") to other nations or jurisdictions, due to conflicts, lack of opportunity, or health hazards where they are living. It parallels the term "capital flight" which refers to financial capital that is no longer invested in the country where its owner lived and earned it. Investment in higher education is lost when a trained individual leaves and does not return. Also, whatever social capital the individual has been a part of is reduced by his or her departure.

Spokesmen for the Royal Society of London coined the expression “brain drain” to describe the outflow of scientists and technologists to the United States and Canada in the early 1950s. Its counterpart is brain gain in the areas to which talent migrates. Brain drain can occur either when individuals who study abroad and complete their education do not return to their home country, or when individuals educated in their home country emigrate for higher wages or better opportunities. The second form is arguably worse, because it drains more resources from the home country.

This phenomenon is perhaps most problematic for developing nations, where it is widespread. In these countries, higher education and professional certification are often viewed as the surest path to escape from a troubled economy or difficult political situation.

Question: So, why am I writing all this?

Answer: My hometown Penang is currently experiencing this, something I endeavour to change.

Mobile Phone vs The Bible

Do ever wonder what would it be like if we treated our Bible like we treat our mobile phones?

o What if we carried it around in our pockets/bags?
o What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
o What if we flipped through it several times a day (a minute for some)?
o What if we used it to receive messages daily?
o What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
o What if we used it as we travelled?
o What if we used it in case of an emergency?

So which one do you think you need more?

One thing to consider, unlike our mobile phones, we don't ever have to worry about our bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill! Haha

Deal or No Deal?

So what's the story here. Will there be a divide? Will they kiss and make up?

Treasurer, Peter Costello recently alleged that Prime Minister, John Howard has gone back on a deal to hand over the leadership to him during this last term.

I guess the real question is does the Australian public really care?

What do you think? Or is this deal more of concern to you?

Origin has come back home!

"Queensland, after waiting for four years, for the next 12 months this is yours!"

These words uttered by Queensland captain Darren Lockyer before lifting the State of Origin trophy will undoubtedly go down as one of the most memorable moments in origin history.

Mel Meninga's men came from 14-4 down to win 16-14 over New South Wales, in an electrifying and eventful Origin 3 for 2006. Lockyer capped if all off with an intercept from Brett Hodgson to put the ball in between the posts for the all important try to tie the game. The following conversion game Queensland the win.

What an atmosphere we had at church, as the guys and gal (Tracy we haven't forgotten you) gathered to watch an amazing game. In a sea of maroon fans there were a couple of blues supporters (ie Rick & Ashley). Ahem, ahem, Ash I guess we gonna have to shave off your hair on Sunday haha!

Origin has come to where it belongs, origin has come back to Queensland, origin has come back home!
